Social Impact

Insight Optics provides everyone the ability to conduct specialized exam with confidence at any time regardless of specialization.

Our Vision for Preventable Health

Insight Optics is an impact driven startup dedicated to connecting Primary Care Providers with local specialists for assisted diagnostics. We have built our solution to ensure that providers can capture non-adherent patients where they already are by easing their burdens and concerns and improving accessibility for the most rural, impoverished, and marginalized populations. We make these exams accessible with most easily obtainable hardware in every environment at any skill level.

Insight Optics’ primary business mission is deeply rooted in our core values and principles. We continuously take steps to impact change, socially and environmentally, through enabling ubiquitous access to specialized healthcare. We execute this mission in several ways, including:

  • Ensuring access to care for people of all demographic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Expediting the pathways to care and making sure the most at risk patients are diagnosed and treated immediately.
  • Helping people live happier, healthier lives by identifying diseases at a point when they can still be effectively treated.
  • Utilizing our proprietary platforms and advanced technology to provide superior care in conjunction with our medical partners.
  • Since our founding in 2016, Insight Optics’ Core Mission has been to reduce the barriers preventing patients from seeking preventative medical care by enabling those physicians with access to provide specialized services without additional training. With the utilization of our innovative platforms, technology, and partnerships, we are committed to counter the extensive effects preventable disease inflicts on communities that have inequitable access to healthcare.

The CDC has estimated that 154 million people in the US have diabetes, hypertension, or both. More than half of those affected are in the Southeast, our primary operating area. These patients are at risk of developing severe comorbidities as a result of their primary disease, but, luckily, nearly all of these diseases can be prevented with routine specialized pre-screenings. Patients throughout the US will see a PCP every year, while less than half see a specialist annually. Further The drivers behind why patients tend toward non-adherence predominantly affect impoverished, rural, minority, and other marginalized groups. We’re bridging the gap between the point of primary care and the specialists to catch the signs of disease progression early without requiring behavioural change from the patient or practitioner.

We empower Primary Care Providers to confidently provide diagnostics to expand routine patient specialty care with a smart, mobile-enabled system that records exam data with portable smartphone technology. Our computer vision and machine learning enabled backend provides real-time feedback on the content and quality of exam details captured and enables the primary care provider to refer validated medical videos to local specialists for assisted screening. Through providing an effective screening device for diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy, PCPs are then able to expand current patient preventative care to include diagnosis of retinal disease leading to blindness.

Our goal is to efficiently detect early signs of blindness before permanent damage occurs. Physicians providing early detection as part of routine office visits, as opposed to an ophthalmic specialist referral, will limit and prevent the need for extended treatment and interventional care in non-adherent populations reducing healthcare costs. This extends further to under-represented, marginalized, and rural communities by circumventing the behavioural and systemic issues normally preventing them from seeking preventative care.

Our platform works at every level and isn’t limited to the regions where it has the most impact. It was designed specifically to incent all of our stakeholders in a way that encourages adoption regardless of who they are, where they are located, the resources they have available to them, and the scale of impact they can have. The intention is to seamlessly enable providers ranging from small facilities like St. Landry, to large physicians’ networks like TIOPA, to channel partners like Texas Medical Center and Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation to serve as many people as possible without the need to modify patient behaviour. Addressing systemic and individual issues at every scale is the only way we can achieve our mission of eliminating preventable diseases.

Sustainable Development Goal 3: Health for Allclose

Ensuring healthy lives and promoting the well-being for all at all ages is essential to sustainable development.

We have specific focus in Goal 3 on two targets:

  • 3.8 Achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all.
  • 3.D Strengthen the capacity of all countries, in particular developing countries, for early warning, risk reduction and management of national and global health risks.
  • Insight Optics addresses these targets by identifying diseases at a very early stage, before the onset of dangerous and life threatening conditions. We do this through our integrated medical partnerships, expeditious accessibility and diagnostics for all individuals. One of our fundamental principles is to ensure that patients continue to receive vital, life-changing care and treatment their entire life. Research has shown that higher diabetes rates were also seen in poor neighborhoods, where individuals have limited access to diagnostic resources (Gaskin et al.). At Insight Optics, we strive to design our solutions to provide ubiquitous access to all patients.

And we aren't stopping with retinopathy. We've built our platform to address a myriad of problems and are working with groups like Emory Hospital to provide care to

Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduced Inequalitiesclose

Ensuring healthy lives and promoting the well-being for all at all ages is essential to sustainable development.

We have specific focus on Goal target 10.2:

To reduce inequalities, policies should be universal in principle, paying attention to the needs of disadvantaged and marginalized populations.

We seek to empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status. Disadvantaged individuals visit Specialists at a much lower rate then those in higher socioeconomic segments. These groups frequently do not receive the same level and frequency of screening services that would identify health issues, including retinopathy. We provide a mobile, hardware agnostic solution that not only enables unspecialized practitioners to capture exams in-office, but also enables Insight Optics’ partners to go to the individuals who can not regularly visit physicians for key diagnostics tests.

At Insight Optics, our core mission is to make care and health evaluations ubiquitously accessible for people of all walks of life, especially to those who do not have the means to visit with a PCP. With our platform and partnerships, we can ensure vital screenings are performed, results are quickly generated, and patients know when to see a specialist as soon as possible.
